Overcoming Satan’s Attacks

“For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.” ~ 2 Corinthians 10:3-5

All believers have battles with their thoughts. Just because you’re saved doesn’t mean you’re automatically free from temptation and spiritual attacks on your mind! And when Satan plants thoughts in your mind, he is trying to establish footholds and strongholds in order to disable your faith and destroy your walk with Jesus.

In the spiritual battlefield of the mind, a lying thought can become a stronghold, a fearful thought can become a stronghold, a lustful thought can become a stronghold. One dangerous lie from Satan planted in your mind can hold you captive to sickness, fear and deception. Just look at these examples from God’s Word:

Satan sowed doubt into Adam amd Eve when he said, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?” (Genesis 3:1)
Satan put a bad thought into the heart of Judas to betray Jesus (Luke 22:3).
When Ananias and Sapphira lied about the price of their property, Peter said, “‘Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit?’” (Acts 5:3).

BUT HERE’S THE GOOD NEWS: In Christ you can overcome Satan’s attacks and experience peace of mind, clarity and complete victory over the enemy! That’s why the Bible teaches you and me to “pull down strongholds” by “bringing every thought into captivity.” We are to wrestle, resist, rebuke, overcome, bind and stand against Satan. And when we do, he will flee (James 4:7)!
