COMMUNICATING WITH SPIRITS

The attempt to communicate with spirits of the deceased and those of the occult world is forbidden by God (Leviticus 19:31; Deuteronomy 18:9-12). It is not only sinful but also a quite unsafe practice, yet it is one of the most common occult practices in the world.

People try to contact souls of the departed and the entities of the spiritual world because:

• They wish to connect with their deceased loved ones, departed souls who were once famous, historical figures who died and random individuals who have passed on.

• They seek knowledge about the afterlife, the past, the future and spiritual things.

• They find supernatural manifestations exciting.

Various practices are performed to contact souls of the deceased and other spirits. However, departed souls cannot be contacted by the living. It is also not possible to contact God or His angels through these sinful actions. Demons are the only ones who respond to those who try to contact souls of the deceased as well as entities from the spiritual world.

One way people try to contact and receive messages from souls who have passed on is by holding a séance. A séance involves a group of people sitting around a table with a medium who acts as the leader of the group. The medium is believed to possess a psychic ability that allows him/her to communicate with spirits.

The relaying of messages from spirits by a medium to non mediums is called “channelling”. When they are channelling, mediums may be fully conscious, slip into an altered state of consciousness or go into a trance. In a trance, spirits possess the medium and communicate to the rest of the group. The spiritual entities express their messages through the medium by writing and speaking. Sometimes the medium is not conscious while the demons are using their hand to write or their voice to speak.

In a séance, certain methods are used to invite the souls of the dead and other spiritual beings to appear. It is believed that the spirit draws the energy they need to make their appearance from the medium and the members of the group.

Demons quickly respond to the invitations that are sent out to them by these practices. Because demons are able to take the form of the person who died and because they have access to knowledge of personal details of people’s lives, they can deceive many individuals. For instance, a demon may respond to a séance held to invoke a dead relative, appear in the form of the person, speak as they do and use their knowledge about the dead person to convince the group that it is actually the soul of the dead relative manifested before them.

Demons can take the form of anyone to try to win peoples’ trust so they can spread the lies and false teachings of the evil one. Demons would also spread their lies through mediums and devices such as Ouija boards.

Special items are used to communicate with spirits and receive messages from them. Examples of these are: Ouija boards, spirit trumpets, and séance tables. The Ouija board is probably the most common device used for communicating with the dead. A spirit trumpet is a cone-shaped apparatus that is commonly used in a séance. The trumpet floats when spirits are present and their messages are made audible through this device. A séance table is a small light-weight table which rotates or levitates when spirits are present. If you possess any of these items or any device used in occultism, get rid of it now if you wish to be free from demonic oppression.

The Almighty God clearly forbids any attempt to communicate with or receive messages from the dead or spirits of the occult world (Deuteronomy 18:11). Any person who practices these things will be cursed. Also, demon possession is very likely for those who try in any way to communicate to the dead and spirits of the occult world.
