Books more about love and caring about others, than magic?

I read these books about 5 years ago an the main focus of the story is about love and friendship, the magic is not the focus of the story.

Harry's Mom and Dad sacrifice themselves to save Harry and at the end of the last book, Harry sacrifices himself to save his friends.

So while I believe the magic and witchcraft in these books are misguided and against God, the major theme of the books which is selflessness and love, redeems the books.

What are your thoughts?

I have been taught not to read anything that has magic or witchcraft in it. Because it is against God and we are to guard our minds and what we read that can weaken our walk with the Lord.

I go by the scriptures
Deuteronomy 18:10-12
New International Version (NIV)
10 Let no one be found among you who sacrifices their son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, 11 or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. 12 Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord; because of these same detestable practices the Lord your God will drive out those nations before you.

I am glad you know that is is wrong and I would rather read something from Janet Oke that brings in Godly principles and leaves out the magic and witchcraft. Today there is too much of the Harry Potter type books teaching kids and adults to seek out casting spells on people they are mad at or who are just wanting to rule over others with the spells.
That pathway leads them to hell.
God wants us to seek Him out. He loves us and will give us gifts that surpass the powers of darkness and will not bring a curse on them when they walk closely to God.
