Precious Lord is one of my favorite anointed worship songs. It was written by Tommy Dorsey, not the bandleader after the death of his wife and newborn son. Dorsey, a talented musician, was at a revival in St. Louis when he received news of his wife and son's death in childbirth. Dorsey wrote "Precious Lord" in response to his inconsolable bereavement at the death of his wife, Nettie Harper, in childbirth, and his infant son in August 1932".
