For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
Romans 8:14
This verse does not say, "...as many as are led by prophecies or prophets." The prophets gave direction in the Old Testament, but in this day and age, prophecies are for edification, exhortation, and comfort (1 Corinthians 14:5). There, also, may be times when prophecies give you a word of wisdom and knowledge.
If someone prophesies new information instead of confirmed revelation of something God has already been dealing with you about, throw out that prophet's word. The prophet's message always lines up with the Bible. If you have never heard his message before, don't ask, "Oh, Lord, is that you?" because you already know the answer. The Spirit of God will lead you into all truth.
